Dear Parent/Carer



This letter is for all parents or carers of children who are due to enter nursery in 2018. You should also have received an application form and the Parents/Carer School Information Booklet 2018, which is also available from the Council’s website It is recommended that you read this booklet before completing your application.


All children who reside/ live in Blaenau Gwent are entitled to a free part-time education place in the term after their third birthday. This place can be in a council-maintained nursery school/class or in a registered education provider setting, which may be a playgroup or a private day nursery.


Applications must be made by an adult who has parental responsibility for the named child. A completed application form must be received for every child for whom a nursery place is requested. Proof of address and proof of the child’s date of birth is also required in support of all applications, if you do not consent to the Council checking your Council tax record, physical proof of residency will be required to verify your home address.


Where a parent/carer does not provide the relevant evidence to support their application, the form submitted will be treated as incomplete until all supporting evidence is received; therefore, we would urge you to send all of the information required at the earliest opportunity before the closing date for application.


Once your application form is complete with all of the supporting evidence attached/ enclosed and the form has been signed, it should be returned to the Education Transformation Team, Anvil Court, Abertillery NP13 1DB by 5pm on the closing date, 27th October 2017. Should you wish your child to attend a nursery at a voluntary aided school, please apply directly to the school, there are: All Saints RC School; St Mary’s RC School; St Mary’s Church in Wales School; and, St Joseph’s RC School.  Applications for a nursery place with a registered early years provider should be made directly to the provider.  More information on registered providers can be obtained by contacting the Family Information Service on 08000 323339 or email at or visit


Please note that it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that a completed application form is sent to the relevant admission authority safely and on-time. Any applications that are received after the closing date and/or, applications that remain incomplete on the closing date will be determined as being late, which may result in your child being refused a place at their/ your preferred school.


We will write to all parents on the 24th November 2016 to notify you of the outcome of your application.
